During the Second World War HMS Belfast saw action at the Battle of the North Cape in 1943 and played a major role during the D-Day landings in 1944.  After a well-earned refit Belfast also played an active role in the Korean War from 1950-1952.  One of only three surviving bombardment vessels from D-Day, HMS Belfast is now preserved by IWM and anchored in River Thames.
