Forming a vital component of Britain's post war integrated air defence protection during the Cold War era, the Bristol Bloodhound surface to air radar guided missile system was intended to protect the integrity of Britain's V-bomber nuclear deterrent force from hostile air attack.  The system saw service from 1957 until 1991.
