AC Cobra founded Carroll Shelby's reputation as a brilliant sports car designer.  In the early 60's, for the AC Cobra, he took the two-seat British sports car AC Ace and implanted a 4.7 litre V8 engine from Ford into it.  The result was a thoroughbred racing car with brutal acceleration.
